This 1920 home in the coveted Houston Heights neighborhood has maintained its good bones over the last 100 years. The original red pine wood floors on the main floor, airy ten-foot-high ceilings, and all the natural light via large windows are just some examples. More recently, these elements were brought to a new level, thanks to interior designer Amanda Tucker of Bohome Interiors.

Tucker’s handiwork is apparent as soon as you step inside the front door. To the right, double glass doors open to a sitting room lined with shelves, saturated in a deep moody blue color, and illuminated by a dramatic crystal chandelier overhead.

Through a door off the living room, you’ll find another delightful reveal: an overhauled kitchen with all of the modern conveniences, yet still giving off vintage vibes, organized as it is around an antique table-turned-island sourced at the Round Top Antiques Fair. An abundance of colorful custom cabinetry, butcher block counters, a white tile backsplash, and retro-inspired appliances from Big Chill complete the look.

In the attached breakfast room, Citrus Garden wallpaper from Schumacher wraps the walls, bringing in more cheerful color and pattern, while nearby, there’s a sweet butler’s pantry with more storage, as well as a full-sized wine fridge.

Not to be outdone, the main floor bathroom has its own surprises. All the traditional elements are there, including wainscot, penny tile floors, a pedestal sink, and slipper soaking tub, done up in a crisp black-and-white scheme. Then Tucker topped it off with a bold, banana leaf wallpaper for a little unexpected joie de vivre.

There’s a bedroom on the main floor. Upstairs, the attic was previously converted to a true primary retreat tucked under the vaulted ceilings, balancing charming nooks with a lot of contemporary function. It hosts a light-filled office, or bonus room, complete with window seat lining one wall; a large bedroom with custom storage, all painted in a rich blue; as well as an en-suite bathroom with a sizable walk-in shower and a second built-in bench underscoring the windows.
