Try as we might, Houston is not the greenest city, and even worse, we’ve become downright trashy over the past year, literally. In a normal year Houstonians produce 4.2 million tons of municipal waste, with the average person tossing out 748 pounds of garbage. But we haven’t exactly been living in normal times of late, and thanks to all the takeout containers, Amazon boxes, and spring-cleaning purges we’ve engaged in during the pandemic, Houstonians had thrown out 60 percent more trash by last November than we had the previous year, a massive increase, trash-wise.

However, it doesn’t have to be this way. As Earth Day rolls around this April, it’s the perfect time to make amends for last year’s excessive garbage (in more ways than one). That’s why we’ve rounded up some of the best products aimed at helping you celebrate that by living a greener, more sustainable lifestyle here in the Bayou City.
