There’s ABOUT a week left until we’re all seated at the dinner table and giving thanks. But for some families, tables will not be filled with a plethora of home-cooked dishes. If funds are a little tight this Thanksgiving, we have just the solution for you. Rapper, actor, business mogul, and Houston resident Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson has partnered with the Rockets and Kroger to host a free turkey distribution on November 19 at the Toyota Center.

The 2022 HEB Thanksgiving Parade Grand Marshal made the move from the Big Apple to the Bayou City in January 2021 and since his landing, the entrepreneur has been heavily involved in the metropolitan’s many communities. Last year, Jackson launched an after-school entrepreneurship program, the G-Unity Business Lab, to help students learn core business values and skills to create and develop business ideas. The program includes enrolled students from the Houston Independent School District (HISD) schools such as Kashmere, Booker T. Washington, James Madison, and Jack Yates High Schools.

This will be Jackson’s second annual turkey giveaway; he served about 600 turkeys at the Boys and Girls Club in Mission Bend last year. Looking to make this year’s bigger and better, Jackson has worked closely with the Rockets to initiate a drive-thru-only turkey giveaway.

The event staff will distribute 1,000 gobblers on a first-come, first-serve basis beginning at 10 a.m. Families can drive up to the Toyota Center, along Polk Street, and receive one Thanksgiving meal per vehicle including items donated by Kroger, Spec’s, and the G-Unity Foundation. In addition to the food supplies, you will also receive a voucher to attend an upcoming Rockets home game. Who knows, you might even catch a glimpse of 50 Cent himself.
