Apartment Envy
Museum District, Asia Society Inspire Design at The Southmore
The luxury apartments from Hines channel the surrounding art community and neighboring Asia Society.
Wine lovers, sports fans, and environmentalists can all find something to love about The Southmore, another luxury high-rise apartment project from Houston-based international real estate firm Hines—yes, as in Gerald Hines.
Why, you ask? Well, there's the private tasting room with a jaw-dropping mural by Scott Gunderson hand-crafted from 60,000 wine corks; a sports lounge with a giant flat-screen TV, shuffleboard, and poker table; and electric vehicle charging stations, to name a few amenities at the 24-floor, 303,000-square-foot apartment building at 5280 Caroline St. in the Museum District.
Like Hines' other multifamily project, The Southmore draws influence from its location, a bustling and artistic community with a rich history. Designed by Munoz+Albin Architecture & Planning and Mayfield & Ragni Studio, the slender building marries art (including site-specific installations) with architecture and also pays homage to its neighbor, the Asia Society building, expressly cited as a key influence by both architects and interior designers who sought to channel its serenity and evoke an Asian minimalist aesthetic.
Inside, there's also a dedicated screening room; 24-hour gym; catering kitchen; guest suites; bike storage; 233 one-, two-, and three-bedroom units; and 14 penthouses. Amenities continue outdoors with a seventh-floor pool including grilling stations and plenty of room to lounge on the 11,000-square-foot pool deck with panoramic views of the city skyline. There's plenty of urban greenery, too, including a private 10,00-square-foot "pocket park" and water garden connecting to a ground-level 3,000-square-foot future restaurant.
Back inside, regular units feature 10-foot ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows and range in size from 851 to 1,890 square-feet. Penthouses, which include two- and three-bedroom options, on The Southmore's top two floors boast 12-foot ceilings and range from 1,454 to 2,988 square feet. Monthly rent begins at $2,380 and goes up to $12,775.
