Retreat & Relax in Kerrville, TX

A true Hill Country paradise.

Presented by Kerrville, Texas CVB July 11, 2018

Surrounded in natural beauty of the renowned Texas Hill Country, Kerrville is what many would call a Texas paradise. Boasting a mild year round climate and ideally located an hour drive west of San Antonio as well as snugly between two other Hill Country favorites, Fredericksburg and Bandera, one doesn’t have to travel very far to see or do so very much! Charming shops and cafes await you in the quaint, historical downtown district.  Small, winding country lanes that follow the flow of the Guadalupe, lined with generations-old cypress and oak trees, offers the perfect opportunity to enjoy a leisurely afternoon drive. An impressive collection of galleries, museums, wineries, martini bars, eateries, studios, theaters and showrooms, as well as a number of other cultural settings, makes Kerrville the foremost destination for a weekend or a week in the beautiful Texas Hill Country.

One of the larger of the hill country towns, Kerrville still has that small town feel and ambiance that welcomes you and invites you to stay awhile.  Rich in history, but modern in its conveniences, Kerrville seems to have something for everyone. Enchanting downtown shop windows and restaurants are filled with items that seem to beckon visitors inside.  Once you walk through the doors, you can’t help but notice the architectural details that hint of another time.  Vintage surroundings seem to lend the perfect backdrop for the unique home goods, high end clothing, jewelry, and merchandise; all of which can be found literally along the banks of the Guadalupe River. With a bevy of dining options, you will find yourself wanting to make time to sample all the eats and drinks Kerrville has to offer.

Walk along the shady banks of the Guadalupe River on the recently completed four mile Guadalupe River Trail that runs between Louise Hays and Kerrville-Schreiner Park. Or get out on the water with a rented kayak or paddle board from Kerrville Kayak & Canoe and go on an adventure! Thanks to a beautiful natural setting, the Kerrville area is an outdoor lover’s dream. Keep an eye out for rare and endangered species like the Golden-Cheeked Warbler or the Green Kingfisher known to frequent the area, as well as the many other exotic animals that reside throughout the Kerrville area. If you find yourself wanting to learn more about local wildlife and natural history, the Riverside Nature Center will surely be able to answer all of your questions. Children and adults will enjoy the beautiful grounds and educational displays in their Welcome Center.

Kerrville has become a cultural mecca for artists of all genres. With a thriving performing arts community of both local and professional productions you are sure to stay amused and delighted throughout your stay. Music lovers have a number of opportunities throughout the year to enjoy and experience a variety of performances.  Every year, beginning Memorial Day weekend, thousands of visitors flock to Kerrville to enjoy eighteen straight days of music at the Kerrville Folk Festival. Labor Day weekend offers a three-day condensed version of the festival, coupled with wine-tasting, crafts, food and camping, at the Kerrville Fall Music Festival. Kerrville is also home to a multitude of private galleries for local artists and craftsmen who draw inspiration from the scenic Hill Country setting. The famous silversmith, James Avery’s Headquarters and campus is a must see when you’re in the area.  Browse their retail showroom, or sit outside on their patio and enjoy watching the wildlife that calls the compound home. Regardless of what you’re interest is, or what you’re looking for, you can definitely find it in Kerrville.
