We all need a place where we can unwind after a long day at work, a corner booth to catch up with old friends over drinks or a restaurant that we can always count on to make a mean Bacon Burger. Well we found it, and its name is The General Public. And by popular opinion, it’s pretty fantastic.

Located in Houston’s CITYCENTRE development, The General Public features a wholesome menu and a wide selection of cocktails, beer, wine and even more whiskey. Its signature horseshoe-shaped bar is tended by some of the best bartenders in the city, eager to share well-crafted concoctions inside or on the air condition patio (which, in Houston, is a necessity).

The menu is chalked full of classic dishes with a sophisticated twist that parallel the unique vibe of Houston’s restaurant scene. Menu starters like crab hushpuppies and tuna nachos are reminiscent of trips to the coast. The General Public’s house specialties offer something for everyone, from fish and chips to pork with braised kale to a center cut ribeye.

The General Public’s extensive whiskey menu impressively offers single malt, scotch blends, bourbon, rye and whiskey blends. The beers on tap properly include some of Houston’s finest like Saint Arnold’s Santo Black Kölsch and Karbach Love Street. The best part of all the drink offerings at The General Public? During Happy Hourly, Monday through Friday, the entire drink menu is $3 at 3 p.m., $4 at 4 p.m. and $5 at 5 p.m.
