Maureen M. Patton has served as the Executive 1Director of The Grand 1894 Opera House since 1981. Her many duties include overseeing the theatre’s $3.5 million budget, supervising its administration, directing three major capital campaigns and scheduling The Grand’s vibrant programming, while also being an effective ambassador for the theatre and Galveston through her volunteer work locally, nationally and internationally. The 2019-2020 season marks the 125th anniversary of the opening of the theatre. Maureen was one of the early people to take on the project of the historic theatre movement and has served on the National Board of the League of Historic American Theatres, winning the League’s inaugural Outstanding Individual Contribution Award in 2003. She is a founding member and currently on the Board of the Southwest Performing Arts Presenters and has served as an Arts Review panelist for both Texas Commission on the Arts and Mid-America Arts Alliance. She has served her community on numerous boards and is active in many community building organizations including Historic Downtown Galveston Partnership, The Galveston County Regional Chamber of Commerce, and the City of Galveston’s Park Board of Trustees, where she currently serves as chair of the board’s Finance Committee. A frequent panelist and speaker at arts conferences, Mrs. Patton has served as a management and programming consultant on fifteen theatre projects in four states.
