Galveston Welcomes You!

Coastal Distancing on Galveston Island.

Presented by Galveston Island Convention & Visitors Bureau March 1, 2021

One of the best things about escaping to the island is the freedom of being surrounded by nature. With sea birds in the air, sand dunes by your feet and miles of coastal landscapes from beach to bay, Galveston Island allows you to have a remote getaway where you can finally breathe easy.

Just a 50-mile drive from Houston, the island’s 32-mile -coast is lined with thousands of beach houses, vacation rentals and socially distant activities for your next trip – whether you’re eager to explore or just in need of a refreshing change of scenery from the comfort of your home away from home.

Once you arrive cruise around Galveston’s historic neighborhoods and you’ll quickly see that the past is very much part of the present. Take tours of Moody Mansion, an 1895 home filled with opulent furnishings and heirlooms, Bishop’s Palace, one of Galveston’s “Broadway Beauties,” and The Bryan Museum, which houses one of the world’s largest collections of historical artifacts relating to the American Southwest. Full of attractions such as Moody Gardens, Pleasure Pier, Horseback Riding, Galveston Island is fun for the whole family. There are fishing charters available year round, plus surf lessons and standup paddle board rentals for those looking to maximize their time on the water.

If you’re inkling for a delicious meal overlooking the beach, there are many restaurants ready to help you put COVID worries aside and serve you and your families outside in an open-air setting. Mario’s Seawall Italian Restaurant serves up hand-tossed pizzas, pasta and mouth-watering cannoli; Mosquito Café, which operates out of an 1870s building complete with a sunny patio, is a fast and casual stop for fresh, homemade breakfast, soups, salads and sandwiches; and Rudy & Paco’s is known for a more sophisticated experience. That’s just to name a few!

When you visit, we want to assure you that the health, safety, well-being and enjoyment of Galveston’s visitors and residents is our top priority. Go to VisitGalveston.com for the most up-to-date information. We hope to see you soon!
