When you began working on The Parklane what was your inspiration for the design?
The Parklane is an iconic building with a rich history. It was once the tallest high-rise residential building in Houston and paved the way for many luxury high-rises to come. When we’re working with an existing structure, we revisit its origin from a holistic perspective. We drew inspiration from its identity to develop a fresh perspective that remained authentic to its original intention.

What design aspects of The Parklane set it apart from other projects you have completed?
By nature, renovation projects are very different. Taking the shell of something and making it fresh and new always makes for a unique experience. I especially enjoy the opportunity to revitalize something that has a history and elevate it to meet today’s standards of luxury.

We approached this project in the same way we would have new construction and did not compromise quality. It has all the must-have elements as a new project, including European cabinetry, LED lighting and high-end finishes.

The Parklane has an external garage structure, as opposed to the internal structure in most buildings. This gave us a significant amount of outdoor space to work with, which we were really excited about. It made way for an incredible amenity deck.

Have you ever taken on a condo project conversion and if not, why did you decide to be part of the project team for this project?
This is our first condominium conversion project. Personally, I really enjoy renovation projects because you have the opportunity to build upon the history and soul of the existing structure.

What are elements do you find essential when designing condo interiors?
Proper lighting and high-end finishes are must-haves for every project. Lighting, wood and cabinets are the big-ticket items and often used as a benchmark for quality and luxury. For condominium interiors, it is also very important to maximize storage and closet space.

What makes The Parklane unique?
The location speaks for itself. The Parklane is situated in an area with tremendous walkability and the accessibility to green space is unparalleled. The lobby renovation is quite impressive as well. It is a very unique space, especially for Houston, given the scale of the space, the height of the ceiling.

How would you describe The Parklane’s design aesthetic?
It is a contemporary building, so we stayed true to its roots and incorporated timeless elements. The material palette is warm, very classic, and all stone. The lobby is reminiscent of a jewel box. We used all the vertical elements that were already existing and created a reimagined, inviting space.

Who do you think will live here?
The price point will really get people moving to the Museum District. This area is only being developed more and more over time and you’re not going to find something like this. It is hard to pinpoint one specific group, as this building appeals to such a wide range of demographics.
