Whether you are paddling around on a kayak or cruising around on a jet ski, there are a variety of ways to explore Lake Conroe.

Dive into Water Fun on Lake Conroe
Start your weekend off at Lake Conroe, a 22,000-acre lake known as Houston’s aquatic playground. Make sure to cast your lines because Lake Conroe is considered the Houston Metro fishing destination. Whether you are a seasoned angler or practicing your fishing game, you are sure to reel in a catch and spot a variety of fish in Conroe. All around the lake, you can find full-service fishing charters, fishing guides, boat rentals, tackle shops, and more to ensure all of your fishing needs are covered. When your family is ready for another lake adventure, hop on a watercraft rental and glide, paddle, float, or zoom around as you explore the lake! From water skiing to jet skis, paddleboards, kayaks, canoes, and even a hydrorocket that will allow you to soar above the water, you can take in the serene sights all day long. For those who want to enjoy the scenic beauty of the lake in a more relaxed way, enjoy a picnic and conversation along wooded shores as you take in the views of the picturesque lake. You can also sip on a craft cocktail lakeside during sunset at Conroe’s Margaritaville Lake Resort.

Change Your Latitude at Conroe’s Margaritaville Lake Resort
Nestled on the shores of Lake Conroe, Margaritaville Lake Resort is the only Margaritaville Resort in Texas and you are sure to find your island state of mind when you play and stay there. The array of resort amenities provide both family fun and a relaxing retreat experience. Escape the Texas heat and cool off with a dip in one of the five resort pools or kick back and relax with a float down the lazy river. Kids will love splashing and sliding around at Jolly Mon Waterpark and playing a round of mini-golf at the Parrot Island Mini Golf course. Margaritaville also features a stunning 18-hole golf course so adults can practice their swing too. To reach optimum relaxation, book a rejuvenating spa treatment at the St. Somewhere Spa.

Take in the sights of towering pines and the sounds of birds nestled in the trees as you trek through miles of forest.

Explore Miles of Forest
Conroe is home to 250+ miles of forest and one of only 4 national forests in Texas, so strap on your hiking boots and hit the trails of Sam Houston National Forest and W. Goodrich Jones State Forest. Sam Houston National Forest is an outdoor lovers paradise and features part of the Lone Star Hiking Trail. Dubbed the hiker’s “Jewel of Texas,” the Lone Star Hiking Trail is a 96-mile long hiking trail with an additional 32 miles of loop and crossover trails of "foot-path only" offering hikers everything from a day hike to extended overnight treks. If you brought your binoculars on the hike then make sure to explore W. Goodrich Jones State Forest where clusters of endangered Red-Cockaded Woodpeckers find sanctuary in the trees. Kids will especially love the Sweetleaf Nature Trail, picnic tables, horseback riding, fishing, and Geocache adventures that this forest has to offer.

Stroll Around Historic Downtown Conroe
Even Conroe’s downtown is framed by towering pines and scenic beauty making a day of strolling around the city a natural fit for your Memorial Day Weekend getaway. Take a break from the day’s adventure and enjoy everything from shopping and dining to nightly live music and local art. Conroe’s art scene comes to life when you and the family stop by the historic Crighton Theatre for an afternoon play and discover local art via exhibits at one of downtown's three art galleries. Don’t have time for a trip to the gallery? Go on a walking tour of the local art benches that line downtown. The family will also love learning more about Conroe’s history in oil and lumber with a visit to the Heritage Museum that features displays on the original drawing of the Texas flag and the 1931 oil discovery.

Take a Bite Out of The Local Cuisine
Indulging in the local fare is a must on any weekend getaway, and Conroe’s culinary scene is heating up! Dining options include Tex-Mex favorites, authentic Texas BBQ, or lakeside lounging featuring the freshest catch. You can even embark on a dinner cruise aboard the Southern Empress Cruise, a 131-foot paddle-wheeler vessel that sails around Lake Conroe. Conroe is also at the center of the Sam Houston wine trail and the perfect jumping-off point for exploring locally owned wineries. If craft brews are your drink of choice, cheers at one of the three craft breweries located throughout the city.

Whether you are hiking through miles of forest or retreating to the lake on Memorial Day, Conroe will leave you feeling naturally inspired and ready to plan your next adventure!
