Houston Runs on Water

Let’s Keep it Flowing.

Presented by Houston Public Works June 28, 2021

Founded on the banks of the Buffalo Bayou, Houston is a city that literally runs on water. Water that’s as much a part of our present as it is our past. And not just because we drink it or cannonball into it on those hot days. Water keeps Houston thriving because every business, home, church, park, pool and Houstonian needs water just to function. There are no Astros without water. No Fortune 500 companies. No malls. No zoo. No NASA. It takes water to make our beer, our blue jeans, our electricity.

Oil may be liquid gold, but water is Houston’s lifeblood.

And while our population and our diversity is growing, the fact is our water supply is not. That’s why it needs to become part of the conversation. Because rain or shine, drought or flood, water is a vital part of Houston and how we live. Let’s keep it flowing and keep Houston running strong.
