This Hill Country Destination is Worth the Drive
Perched on the banks of the Colorado River lies Marble Falls – a Hill Country getaway just a three-hour drive from Houston. Every year, the Christmas celebration begins with the annual Community Christmas Tree Lighting. This 30-foot tree sits in the middle of Downtown Marble Falls and is a great backdrop to family holiday photos or selfies to commemorate the festive occasion.
Marvel in the breathtaking display of 2 million lights over 350 sculptures right along the water on Lake Marble Falls with the annual Walkway of Lights. There will also be planned activities every weekend on the event grounds such as free photos with the big man himself, Santa; Christmas cookie decorating; and live music. This year’s event marks 31 years of holiday cheer and is free to the public, running from Nov. 19 through Jan. 1 from 6 - 10 pm, weather permitting.
Attendees can also enjoy the Winter Ice Skating Rink situated next to the Walkway of Lights. Ice skating is $10 in advance and $12 day of, with skate rentals included in the price of admission. Additional holiday activities include Breakfast with Santa, Christmas Market on Main featuring over 80+ vendors with handmade goods and crafts, Downtown Sip N’ Shops, and more!
If you’re looking for even more to do in Marble Falls throughout the year, they have it. Located on Lake Marble Falls, one of six man-made lakes in the Highland Lakes region, Marble Falls is a popular destination for boating, watersports, hiking and other outdoor activities. For more adventurous outdoor activities, head over to Shaffer Bend Recreation Area - or one of the other half-dozen recreational spots along the Colorado River - to enjoy kayaking or stand up paddle boarding. To get a taste of this charming town’s wine scene, check out Flat Creek Enoteca across the street from the Marble Falls Visitor Center. The tasting room offers a selection of wine from foreign, domestic and local Hill Country vineyards. Flat Creek Estates’ own winery and vineyard lies to the east, offering tours, tastings and onsite lodging. Beyond wine, Marble Falls is home to a number of local breweries, like Save the World Brewing Co., Double Horn Brewing and the Bear King Brewing Co., bringing an impressive number of craft breweries per capita to the town of just over 7,300.
