Blueprint for Success

The class of 2022 graduates have been shaped by the Basilian teachings of goodness, discipline, and knowledge, effectively growing to embody the mantra, “Eagle Fight Never Dies.” They have shown perseverance throughout their time here, not only in their studies but also in their spiritual and personal endeavors. They have boldly begun to discover and hone in on their gifts and talents while being mentored by a world-class faculty. As a result, the class of 2022 has chosen top colleges across the United States, earned National Merit distinctions, taken on leadership roles at STH and in their greater communities, won athletic titles in a variety of sports, shared their artistic talents in concerts, performances, and exhibits, became Eagle Scouts, deepened their faith, and have earned many other accomplishments throughout their four years here. This is truly what it means to have a fighting Eagle spirit. We are proud of all the class of 2022 has accomplished here and all they will continue to do in the next chapter of their lives.

100% of our graduates are attending college next fall and we are thankful for the Counseling Department’s unwavering dedication to provide students with the correct tools to be successful in college and in their future careers. Counselors communicate with students and their families through every step of a students’ high school journey to ensure that they are supported and set up for success. Incoming ninth graders even have the opportunity to meet their counselor before school starts to begin building a rapport with them. Current senior, Joe Rick Madden cites that, “you will always find the STH counseling team greeting students in the hallways or simply taking time out of their day to check in with students through a friendly conversation. They truly care about each of their students.”

St. Thomas is the first step on a students’ journey which will propel them forward to find success in college and in their career. As soon as a student begins at St. Thomas, they are provided experiential learning opportunities and activities that will broaden their interests. Students learning what interests them, paves the way for them to have discussions with their counselors to identify their strengths and possible college majors. Madden states, “The STH Counseling Department helps prepare students for college the moment they step on campus freshman year, setting goals for the next four years and beginning the college conversation through scheduled meetings with their counselors. The counseling team offers many opportunities for students to look towards their futures through programs such as the Alumni Mentorship Program and Entrepreneurship Summer Program.” Students can test drive potential careers and find a mentor who has walked a similar path, all while further building their resume.

College admissions representatives come to campus every year and our counseling staff teach students how to best represent themselves. In turn, students have the confidence to build relationships with college admissions staff over four years. Counselors provide support in the college application process, helping students to complete applications and choose a best fit school. Counselors also offer workshops for various grade levels throughout the school year to get all students ready to apply.

Madden believes that, “One of the most beneficial elements STH has to provide is the Counseling Department which tirelessly helps plan the future of each and every St. Thomas student. Having encountered almost every counselor at St. Thomas, I can confidently say that each counselor is both significantly knowledgeable about the college application process and insightful in finding the right college fit for any student.”

We wish the class of 2022 all the best as they continue on into their next journey and we are thankful for our faculty and staff that have supported them along the way.
