Regis Named Apple Distinguished School for 2022-2025
The Regis School of the Sacred Heart has been named an Apple Distinguished School for 2022–2025 for its innovative incorporation of Apple technology into Regis classrooms and the Regis community.
Apple Distinguished Schools are centers of innovation, leadership, and educational excellence. They use Apple technology to inspire creativity, collaboration and critical thinking in learning, teaching and the school environment, and have documented results of academic accomplishment.
“I think it’s super important that our boys learn how to use technology not only as a tool, but to use it in a way that is productive for society more broadly,” said Steven R. Turner, Jr., Regis Head of School. He continued, “My vision for technology usage at Regis is that our boys are in a position to move beyond being consumers of the technology around them and instead become digital contributors, creating something meaningful for our society as a whole just by having access to the kinds of tools such as iPad and MacBook in our classrooms at Regis.” The selection of Regis as an Apple Distinguished School highlights the school’s success as an innovator and a compelling learning environment that engages students and provides tangible evidence of academic achievement.
Regis is a 1:1 Apple campus in Kindergarten through eighth grade, and 98% of Regis faculty members are certified Apple Teachers. Age-appropriate technology is accessible and integrated into each classroom at Regis. Students utilize technology in day-to-day learning, as well as in MakerSpace in Early Childhood and Lower School and the technology program in Middle School. In MakerSpace, faculty collaborate closely to bring classroom lessons to life through the power of programming robots, utilization of iPad to create content or learn coding and app development, and through hands-on crafting projects. Each Lower School student is assigned a managed iPad for use throughout the school year. Regis Middle School students are empowered to become responsible and ethical users of technology with each student receiving a Regis-managed, personal iPad in fifth grade and a MacBook Air in sixth through eighth grade. With these products, Middle School students have the opportunity to develop personal responsibility skills for the care, management and proper use of technology.
Regis’ faculty also enjoys incorporating Apple products into the creation and execution of dynamic lesson plans. By leveraging iMovie, GarageBand, SeeSaw, Nearpod, and other apps, teachers are able to approach classroom activities in a way that truly speaks to the tenets of boys’ education and engages each student in a new and compelling way.
Joining the ranks of Apple Distinguished Schools around the globe will provide opportunities for Regis faculty and staff to engage with experts and collaborate with peers who share an interest in innovative learning and teaching.
