Enjoy Summer Camp for History Buffs
Bayou Bend’s Summer History Camp, open to 5th and 6th graders, allows campers to engage with the museum’s collection of American art while making discoveries alongside art history experts. Summer History Camp is a five-day program: Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Level 1 summer camp, July 17 to 21 and July 24 to 28, is for children entering or exiting the 5th grade. Kids get a chance to immerse themselves into colonial American life by forging metal, molding candles, writing with quill pens, and playing colonial-era games. The camp’s thoughtful curriculum challenges campers to form opinions based on asking questions and making discoveries through active participation.
Level 2 summer camp, June 26 to 30, is designed for children entering or exiting the 6th grade. This camp session shifts the focus onto objects made in the 1800s and features a more intense object study and crafting focus than the level 1 camp. The session is ideally suited for previous campers with a desire to continue their experience at Bayou Bend, but enrollment is open to all who meet eligibility criteria.
