Celebrate Louisiana’s spiciest season – crawfish season!

Presented by Visit Lake Charles April 3, 2023

Celebrate Louisiana’s spiciest season – crawfish season – with a foodie trip to Lake Charles, Louisiana this spring!

For most, the spring season introduces pleasant weather, blooming flowers, and bright colors, but Louisianans only care about a bright red platter of piping-hot crawfish. This Louisiana food staple is a social meal, grab n’ go option, and a popular ingredient in various dishes, and Southwest Louisiana has you covered with plenty of seafood restaurants serving up crawfish seasoned to perfection.

Steamboat Bill’s on the Lake is the number one hot spot in Lake Charles, located right on Interstate 10. It’s been voted as best restaurant in the area by locals many times over, and if the wind is just right, you can smell the spices as you’re driving by. Seafood Palace, Hollier’s Cajun Kitchen, The Boiling Point, and BeauxDines’ are all tasty too.

You can also buy crawfish from road-side boil stops, many of which are conveniently adorned with a drive-up window. These “boil & go” establishments sell crawfish by the pound and are often paired with boiled corn, potatoes, mushrooms and sausage, along with a dipping sauce primarily composed of mayonnaise, ketchup, Worcestershire, horseradish and Creole seasoning.

Not surprising, frozen daiquiris are a popular beverage choice when eating this local delicacy. But what may be surprising is that many Louisiana parishes permit the selling of alcohol in gas stations, drug stores and, yes, drive-thru businesses! If you’re looking for daiquiris to-go or to enjoy in general on premises, there are several options to bring some cool, sweetness into your life, including Frosty Factory and Daiquiri Shack.
