Tucked into the Gulf Coast of southwestern Louisiana is a parish with the highest concentration of residents (per capita) claiming Acadian ancestry. Vermilion Parish--also known as “The Most Cajun Place on Earth!”--loves to celebrate our heritage and culture with friends from all around the world. As far as festivals go, we know how to throw a party and we celebrate everything from flowers, eggs, shrimp, cattle, ducks and more. Our annual celebrations feature music, food, arts and crafts and plenty of dancing in the streets! One of our parish’s unique events is Abbeville’s Giant Omelette Celebration, held the first full weekend in November. This event pays homage to our French heritage with Cajun music and food, a French mass and more. The celebration’s highlight occurs on Sunday afternoon with the cooking of the 5,000 plus egg omlette prepared in front of the Courthouse in a 12 foot skillet. It’s really a site to see!

Here you’ll find nature hikes and paddle trails in our state park, fishing, hunting, marshes teeming with wildlife and some of the best birding in North America. A new service to our parish is pontoon boat rentals for individuals who would like to fish or just explore the Vermilion River which travels through our parish from Lafayette to the Vermilion Bay.
