Hike and Bike Sam Houston National Forest

The Sam Houston National Forest is an outdoor lovers paradise! Nature enthusiasts can enjoy fishing, hiking, and bird watching year-round. Known to hikers as the “Jewel of Texas,” the Lone Star Hiking Trail is a 96-mile hiking trail with an additional 32 miles of loop and crossover trails of “foot-path only” trails. And if that isn’t enough, Conroe also boasts the W.G. Jones State Forest, 1,733 wooded acres full of natural beauty just southwest of the town. Sweetleaf Nature Trail, picnic tables, horseback riding, and fishing make this forest a perfect day-use destination.
