SPRING BAGS

The Big Clutch

Flat doesn't have to mean small.

It used to be that you took a clutch to cocktails because you didn't want to carry a bag at all; it kept your lines clean while holding your license, your phone (barely), a credit card, and not much else. But as you may have noticed, we're not exactly living in an era of minimalist accessorizing. While at Elizabeth Anthony Esther Wolf last week, I spotted some oversized clutches that combine the sleekness of an envelope with the space to pack for a full day. I hereby declare clutches to be the new totes.

What to look for in your carryall clutch:

  • Material: You need something sturdy if you’re about to run errands all day, so a flimsy fabric will not do the trick. Go for leather.
  • Color: If you're already going with a bag the size of a Bible, you've given up on restraint. Black is not your friend.
  • Size: Like I said, it needs to fit ALL of your essentials, so don’t skimp here. You want something that can take you from desk to drinks.

Pink and orange ($275), Beirn. Yellow and teal ($2150), Be inthavong. Cognac ($1350), Francoise Elizee.
