Say Good-bye to Settlement Goods

Losing a store you love feels a little like a break-up. It's hard not to blame yourself. I should have stopped by more often, you think. Choosing to spend money on dinner or rent instead of putting it towards that impossibly awesome Venessa Arizaga necklace suddenly seems so selfish. This is why we can't have nice things.

Banish these bad feelings and make amends for all those almost-purchases this week at Settlement Goods. The store, which offers an artsy, upscale mix of products from up-and-coming American designers and craftsmen has announced that it is closing its doors on Feb. 23 after three years in Montrose.
"It’s with a heavy heart we close. Being a part of the Montrose community, and sharing a neighborhood with some of Houston’s smartest and most vibrant people and businesses has been something that has changed our lives, and we’re appreciative we could be a small part of what Houston has to offer," wrote co-owner Jenny Morgan in an email to customers.
Starting tomorrow, the store is also holding a huge closing sale, with everything in stock marked down 50 to 75 percent. That includes candles, pottery, jewelry, wallets, and paper goods, as well as clothing for both men and women.
Better yet, stop by on Feb. 21, when Settlement owners, employees and customers will gather for one last farewell party.
As Settlement put it, as one sun sets, another will rise #posvibes.
