All hail the almighty trunk show, half temporary shopping experience and half party.

Not every designer can have a full-time retail presence in Houston, and even big-name brands that we love can't fit their whole collection in every store. The solution? A trunk show: half temporary shopping experience and half party. Here are the best of the collections coming to Houston stores in April.

Models walk the finale in Prabal Gurung's Spring/Summer 2015 fashion show.

April 2-3: Prabal Gurung Trunk Show at Neiman Marcus. The Nepalese-born designer's work somehow manages to walk the line between edgy and sophisticated.

April 1-5: Rachel Zoe Trunk Show at Tootsies. The only drawback is the stylist-turned-designer won't be there to tell you your outfit is bananas.

April 7-8: Monique Lhuillier Trunk Show at Neiman Marcus. Get first dibs on the famed red carpet designer's collection for fall, which is less structured and more moody than you'd expect from a designer best known for her bridal collections.

April 8-9: Matthew Campbell Laurenza Personal Appearance and Trunk Show at Tootsies. If you were blown away by the runway jewelry show MCL rocked at Fashion Houston last fall, let the designer himself tell you about the exotic inspirations for his latest collection.

Andrea Fohrman 'Shooting Star' ring

April 9-11: Andrea Fohrman Trunk Show at Elizabeth Anthony. This fine jewelry maker treats semi-precious stones (malachite, lapis lazuli) as if they were diamonds, venerating them with stunning cuts and working them into beautful, celestial-inspired shapes.

April 16-17: Carolina Herrera Trunk Show at Saks Fifth Avenue. One of fashion's true grande dames, Herrera isn't content to sit on her laurels, instead pushing into new territories with her designs every season. This is the first chance to see her Fall 2015 collection in-store.

April 16-17: Pamella Roland Trunk Show at Elizabeth Anthony. Eveningwear is anything but old-fashioned in the hands of this celeb-beloved designer.

Model Karlie Kloss walks in Carolina Herrera's Fall/Winter 2015 fashion show.

April 21: Jenny Packham Personal Appearance and Trunk Show at Neiman Marcus. This dress specialist's latest collection oozes a certain ultra-flattering retro glamour, and you can tell her I said so in person.

April 24-25: ISAIA Made-to-Measure Trunk Show at Saks Fifth Avenue. Discover suiting that stands out from this Italian brands known for its exquisite tailoring.

April 29-30: Tamara Mellon Personal Appearance & Trunk Show at Tootsies. It should come as no surprise that the founder of Jimmy Choo shoes would bring over-the-top attitude to her new eponymous line, from animal prints to fearless fringe.
