Where to Wear: Printed Shorts

From the parade to the ballgame or anywhere it's hot (read: everywhere).

Spring has officially sprung—which for Houstonians means temps are on the rise with no relief in sight. So ladies, put away those leggings and skinnies to make room for your new warm-weather staple: printed shorts. Sure, denim cutoffs are great for everyday, but think of all the fun to be had mixing prints and textures in your quest to keep cool and survive the humidity. Break out the balloons, because these Cartonnier shorts are a party for your legs.

What better time to debut a pair of printed shorts than at the weirdest, most Houston-y event of them all. As you prepare to join the other 300,000 spectators along Allen Parkway, think casual-chic with room to breathe. Pair printed shorts with a basic tank, comfy sandals, a statement accessory and a nice floppy hat to keep the heat off your head. Show those cars a little competition, if you know what I mean.

Clockwise from top left: Hat Attack floppy hat, $108 at Brooke Feather; Vintage cotton tank top, $25 at J. Crew; Marc Jacobs cat eye sunglasses in Havana, $365 at Marc Jacobs; ‘Hannah’ woven clutch, $34 at Francesca’s; MIA ‘Wildcard’ sandal in natural, $49 at Nordstrom; Cartonnier tulip hem shorts, $78 at Anthropologie; Marni colour block necklace, $570 at Tootsies.

Look, we all know brunch is more than a meal—it’s an event, one preferably packed with prime patio seating and margaritas for days. So glam up your printed shorts with a girly crop top, movie-star shades, a bit of bling and a fierce pair of heels to try out the first-ever brunch service at new Uptown hotspot Añejo. When you walk in dressed to kill, they'll know you need a seat on the patio and a drink in-hand pronto so nobody gets hurt.

Clockwise from top left: BaubleBar ‘Amazon’ bib necklace, $68 at Nordstrom; Tibi Mateo crochet crop top, $345 at Cake Walk Style; Karen Walker Eyewear ‘star-burst’ sunglasses, $300 at Laboratoria; Lily avenue Carrington tote in sprout green, $298 at Kate Spade New York; Cartonnier tulip hem shorts, $78 at Anthropologie; Leather high heeled sandals with bow, $100 at Zara.

Who doesn’t love an Astros game to kickoff spring? Take this laid-back look out to the ballgame with a cheeky tee, relaxed flip-flops, low-key accessories and your favorite Astros ball cap. Now all you need is a cold Saint Arnold's and a hot dog before you’re chasing fly balls and rooting for the home team.
