These boots (orig. $308, now $154 from KB Kasuals) were made for shopping at The Sale.

Once upon a time—that is, about two years ago—the arrival of January meant disaster for perfectly good, lovable clothing and accessories that failed to be adopted by holiday shoppers. With no infomercials featuring a Sarah McLachlan soundtrack to spread awareness of their plight, these forgotten gifts languished on sale racks and in bargain bins in the back of stores, far from the stylish shoppers who could offer them a good home.

Thankfully those dark days are over. This weekend 50 local boutiques and brands will be offering post-Christmas closeouts all in one place. It's the second year of The Sale, taking place Jan. 9 and 10 at Bayou City Event Center, organized by Houston Tri Delta to benefit The University of Texas MD Anderson Children's Cancer Hospital.

This year be on the lookout for cashmere and fur wraps from A Bientot, monogrammed stationery from Ann Page, chic workout pants from DYI, over-the-knee boots from KB Kasuals and ponchos from Pomp & Circumstance, plus deeply discounted wares from M Penner, Elaine Turner, Tootsies, Monkee's of Houston and Stash.

Tickets are $15 per person in advance ($20 at the door), with a special $100 "Bites and Bubbles" preview event Saturday morning from 10 a.m. to noon, if you're bold enough to be tipsy on mimosas around all those deals. Last year's event was a major success, raising $165,000 for MD Anderson, not to mention all the orphaned purses, shoes and dresses that found forever-homes in Houston closets.
