New York is in the middle of putting on its fashion week for Fall/Winter 2016, but honestly, with Houston's newly arrived spring temperatures (validating the world’s most famous groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, after he predicted an early spring), we're much more concerned about what to wear right now. To kick off Spring 2016, we hit the Neiman Marcus Houston Spring Trend Runway Show to see the most of-the-moment outfits and trends up close and in person. This is the stuff that makes us thank the heavens for patio weather—we’re talking confident reds, bare shoulders, wide-leg pants, shoes that wrap and tie, and high-impact earrings.

Confident Reds

The color of the evening was red! Models sashayed out in red jumpsuits, red pants, red dresses, even red fringe earrings. There’s a reason why it’s called confident red—when you wear this color, all eyes will be on you. And you don’t have to reserve your reds for special occasions: Wear red to work and you’ll be the picture of confidence and sophistication at your weekly business meeting. Try it out and you'll be ready to move your little black dress to the back of your closet.

Bare Shoulders

It wouldn’t be spring without showing a little skin. From peplum tops to floor-length stunners, strapless looks are super hot—the only trick is to keep it classy while still staying cool in the rising temperatures. To balance bare shoulders, add an overstated necklace or carry a denim jacket to slip on in case you feel a chill.

Wide-leg pants are the perfect partner for a cropped top.

The Wide-Leg Pant

Wide-leg pants are no longer just suited for the office. Be they high-waisted or low-slung, these pants embody elegance. Whether you’re wearing them out to dinner with your girlfriends or commandeering the office with your style, these pants are sure to make a statement! If you’re really feeling bold, wear them in cardinal reds or blues. Plus we really love how forgiving wide-leg pants can be.

How to make a bold style statement in the summer? Gladiator sandals (and other shoes that wrap up around your legs) will do the trick.

Shoes That Wrap & Tie

You’ll need to give yourself a little extra time in your morning dress routine for this next trend. Through fuss and arguments of time-consumption, the lace-up trend is here to stay. From the gladiators that hit at the bottom of your knee to dainty ballet-style wraps, these shoes will give you that sexy, ultra-feminine vibe. Wear lace-up flats with your boyfriend jeans to balance the edgier look, or opt for a strappy laced-up stiletto, paired with your favorite LRD (Little Red Dress) for date night.

The twist on bold earrings for 2016 is to pair them with an equally statement-making necklace.

High-Impact Earrings

Move over simple studs, this spring it’s all about embellished ear lobes! These ornament-size beauties are meant to turn heads. You no longer have to decide between wearing a necklace or earrings, just take a cue from the Neiman Marcus models by wearing a statement necklace with your shoulder sweeping earrings.

The overall trend this spring is projecting confidence through your style. As long as you’re poised in the look you’re wearing, that's all that matters. So break out your raddest reds, wide-leg trousers and don’t forget your strappy lace-up shoes!
