Meru Merus Struts into the Museum District
Glitz and glamour were in full effect at the Meru Merus studio launch and fashion show in late September. Designer Umair Khan presented two lines, a prêt-à-porter collection consisting of business casual pieces designed to go from a business meeting seamlessly into cocktail hour, and his couture line featuring chic jumpsuits and ballgowns inspired by the Black Tape Project. The fashion show followed a happy hour that introduced Khan’s new studio and boutique in the Museum District's Chelsea Market Place.
Khan originally started in the fashion industry as a model, working with Liz Claiborne, Nautica, and Jones New York, among others. He then transitioned into fashion design, earning a degree in fashion design and merchandising and launching Meru Merus in 2014. Since then Khan’s work has been showcased in the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and has become a favorite of local fashionistas.
To end the show, Khan auctioned off two of his dresses and pledged to donate the funds to Hurricane Harvey victims, raising a total of $1,650.
