A party in River Oaks District last week was not your average paint and sip. There was both painting and sipping, but most canvases in question were a few thousand dollars.

The April 18 event at Baccarat served to premiere a new designer handbag painting collaboration between The Vintage Contessa & Times Past, the Richmond Avenue luxury showroom for high-end vintage and estate pieces, and Houston artist Hanh Tran. The pop-up party saw Tran–known for her oil on canvas work based on self-study of the human form, nature, culture and emotion–live-painting vintage designer pieces as guests sipped champagne and tried on luxe pieces from the shop Donae Cangelosi Chramosta co-owns with her husband, Rob. Those included Chanel, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton handbags; Hermès scarves; and Rolex watches.

Tran 's creations included a classic black Chanel transformed with painted florals and dripping gold, and a custom Louis Vuitton hanging bag adorned with multicolored letters of the alphabet. The collaboration is meant to "allow trendsetters an opportunity to express their individuality on classic pieces," a press release said. Customization pricing ranges from $150 for a set of three initials to $2,000 for The Vintage Contessa flower on a Louis Vuitton 50-centimeter Keepall Bandoulière.
