Every day we inch closer to the sales tax holiday where shoppers in Texas can save money on the items they need. This year, the anticipated weekend begins Friday, Aug. 6 and ends on Sunday, Aug. 8 at midnight.

Whether it's buying a new backpack or a new pair of shoes, shoppers can expect to save around $8 for every $100 spent. This opens a door to save money as you buy all the things you were waiting to save a few extra dollar on.

The sales tax exemption applies to most clothing, footwear, school supplies such as a new calculator, binders and backpacks. Essential items like masks are also eligible. Most large retailers, including Walmart, Amazon and Target are participating during this year’s sales tax holiday.

Items that qualify are pieces from a Texas store, or from an online seller that does business in the state. Small and local retailers may participate as well but make sure to check for ads to know which retailers are participating. No exemption certificate is necessary.
