As Halloween approaches, gather your broomsticks for a trip through the South’s spookiest ghost sightings. From haunted locales to the creepiest ghost tours, the sites below represent the best of the darker side of country life. For those looking to travel during ghoulish hours, consider signing up for one of the tours below—they're sure to give you a scare.

Granbury Ghosts and Legends Tour, Granbury, TX

In the historic town of Granbury, hauntings are a trend. Through October only, sign up for the Last Mile Cemetery tour and visit the graves of the town’s forefathers, including the notorious Jesse James. Be sure to bring your own flashlight.

The Myrtles Plantation's Mystery Tours, St. Francisville, LA 

Built in 1796 by General David Bradford, the former antebellum plantation has become a popular tourist attraction in recent decades due to several ghost sightings. Make reservations to stay in one of the plantation’s suites or book a guided history tour. Bring your camera to capture any paranormal activity.

Ybor City Ghost Tour, Tampa, FL

In Tampa’s famous Latin District, strange happenings are the norm. Named for cigar manufacturer Vicente Martinez Ybor, the neighborhood of Ybor City was populated with a flow of immigrants from Cuba, Spain, and Italy and became known as “Cigar City.” Some say the residents of buccaneers and gangsters never left.
