Midtown's tastiest karaoke bar is at it again, hosting a series of mouthwatering pop-ups this holiday season. Glitter Karaoke's ever-popular Thursday night pop-up dinners, which spotlight local chefs, restaurants and food trucks, is now a beloved, if relatively young, tradition. During these dinners, brothers Robin & Terry Wong of Blood Brothers BBQ play host to some of the most talented chefs in the city, while guests are welcomed to sample a variety of menu items that can't be found anywhere else.
This month's most anticipated pop-up may well be the dinner scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 17. That evening beginning at 8 p.m., chef Nathan Chang of the Oh My Gogi food truck will pull up to Glitter. Though no stranger to the Houston food scene, this is Chang's first solo pop-up meal. A self-proclaimed "longtime lover of Glitter Karaoke," the skilled chef promises a menu reflecting Gogi staples, including his famous Korean street tacos, OMG fries and juicy ramen burgers.
"We have a pretty standard and consistent menu, but we have special and secret menu items," Chang explains of his four-year-old fusion eatery on wheels. Oh My Gogi was recently voted Asian food truck of the year by mobile-cuisine.com, making Chang's tease all the more scintillating.
With two Houston Oh My Gogi trucks on the road and a third soon to come, Chang's popularity is rising. Whispers of a brick-and-mortar location have begun, but until then, a visit to the food truck (you can find one in Rice Village and the other in Spring) or the pop-up on Dec. 17 will have to do.
That night Glitter will serve drink specials throughout the evening to complement Chang's menu. As always, seats are limited and reservations are strongly recommended. The exclusivity of such pop-up dinners makes them a hit on Thursday nights, and where unique food and drinks flow like wine, memorable karaoke is sure to follow.
