As we're coming up on the weekend, it looks like it's time for another brewery to open. This time it's Twisted Acre, a husband-and-wife effort in Cypress that's selling tickets for its two-day grand opening. For $23 (in one of four time slots, two per day) you get a pint glass and three pours. And limited parking is the reason for the four time slots. Those, by the way, are noon to 4:30 p.m. and 5 to 10 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.

Twisted Acre is already showcasing several beers, and they're—as the name says—twisting traditional recipes. Lower-ABV beers include Green Card (a Mexican lager), Buttcream (a butterscotch cream ale), Go "Heff" Yourself (a hefeweizen, natch), Turner & Cooch (a peach wheat).

Bigger beers include 21 Gun Salute (a 10.78 percent ABV beer brewed with Counter Strike coffee), Tire Swing (bourbon-barrel-aged stout), and Bumble Tree (a honey IPA).

Meanwhile, Walking Stick Brewing Company has opened its taproom at 956 Judiway St. in the GOOF. Here, Colorado native Andy Dunn brews up primarily European varieties (he lived in Britain for a few years) and names them after mountains in his home state that peak at more than 14,000 feet (summiting a 14'er is a big deal for hikers).

Beers include Crestone ESB (an extra-special bitter), Sunlight Saison (a saison), Massive Brown Porter (a British porter), and Conundrum Grapefruit IPA (a traditional IPA with grapefruit zest). Most of the beers seem to be at a mid-to-low ABV.

No Label Brewing Co. is celebrating eight years with a party Saturday at its 5351 1st St., Katy, taproom. The Ocho: 8th Anniversary Celebration is free and runs from noon to 10 p.m. with live music, food from Blood Bros. BBQ and Pocket to Me, and $2 beer pours.

Saint Arnold is hosting a pub crawl Saturday at six Rice Village area stops: Under the Volcano, Kelvin Arms, Big Easy, Ginger Man, Little Woodrow's, and Hopdoddy. Start at Under the Volcano between 2 and 3 p.m., and end at Hopdoddy at 6 p.m. Make all the stops and earn a Saint Arnold pub crawl pint glass. Designated drivers (please have one) are also eligible for the glass.

Ever play pickleball? Well, this is your chance. Bakfish Brewing is hosting Pickle & Pints from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday. For $14, you'll get to play this life-sized ping pong game (or miniature tennis game) and earn a free beer.

Big news from Platypus Brewing: Cans! In stores! Starting today you can get Platypus Bobby Dazzler, Freckled Dingo, The Ranga, and Stars at Night at the Kroger on 11th and Shepherd, H-E-B in Bunker Hill, Spec's Wines, and Spirits & Finer Foods Downtown. And the cans are cute!

Brash announced—in the way only it can—that it'll be rolling out Nice Things, a double IPA, in spring 2019. Not sure yet on whether we can have it or not.

Beer Releases:

Bakish has a small-batch black IPA out right now. It's 7 percent ABV with a slight touch of coffee.

Karbach's newest is Daymaker, a brut rosé IPA that they're planning on making a year-round offering. It's being canned and should be in stores before Christmas.

Speaking of bruts, Southern Star is releasing I Am Brut, which has all the fun Guardians of the Galaxy references and will be coming "soon," according to the brewery.

Looks like Eureka Heights will soon roll out a Christmas spiced stout called Santa's Loca Mocha Stout, as it had a pilot tasting Wednesday evening. Milk stout with cinnamon and nutmeg.
