The beauty industry is booming, a multi-billion-dollar revenue generator that’s estimated to grow over 7 percent each year, according to Goldman Sachs. It’s no surprise, then, that hair salons continue to pop up across the country, including one in Deer Park near Clear Lake.
Longtime stylist Tessa Holzworth opened her own shop, Blow Out Salon & Spa, this spring and celebrated an appropriately fiesta-themed official grand opening on May 5. The modern-chic, full-service family salon offers more than the standard cut and color thanks to an on-staff master esthetician for waxing, hydrafacials, brow shaping, and more.
Holzworth, a native Houstonian who’s spent more than 16 years in the industry, knew from an early age that she wanted to make people feel and look fabulous. With Blow Out, she focused on crafting a comfortable ambiance, mastering techniques, and building a team of stylists who cater to customers’ needs. The process was challenging, she says, but worth it.
“When you think your idea is not possible, keep going—don’t give up,” Holzworth says. “You only fail if you stop trying. Learn from everything that happens on your journey, good and bad.”
Blow Out stylists have years of combined experience perfecting the basics; Holzworth ensures they keep up with current trends and techniques by encouraging continuing education. Services range from classic cuts to vibrant “fashion color” dye jobs, like vivid magenta. Stylists are also partaking in everything from peekaboo highlights—think surprise swaths of pink that pop on layers of standard, more traditional color—to coffee balyage, which employs edible-sounding shades of espresso and “soft latte” to achieve depth. Icy toned hair is also on the menu, a trendy color technique that uses iridescent shades for subtle frostiness and high shine.
Holzworth wants her clients to feel catered to upon first entering her salon, she says, and small luxuries aid in that task, like massage chairs to enhance the spa experience and post-service photos beneath the “diva light.” Because, let’s face it–did you really get your hair done if there’s no selfie to prove it?
