From the ashes of the Tokyo String Quartet, the disbanded Houston chamber music favorite, rises a new trio making its Houston debut. Pianist Jon Kimura Parker, violinist Martin Beaver and cellist Clive Greensmith perform local composer Pierre Jalbert’s anticipated dynamic work with selections ranging from hard-charging to slow and suspended.

In the aftermath of John F. Kennedy’s assassination, LBJ struggles to quickly adjust to his post in the Oval Office. Vietnam, political opposition, a presidential campaign and the arduous task of getting the Civil Rights Act passed all drive the drama in this Tony-winning play.

Opening of Rusalka

In Dvořák’s water nymph tragedy, a mermaid exchanges her magic flipper and melodious voice for life as a bipedal human. The story may sound familiar to fans of Disney’s The Little Mermaid, but this 1901 Czech composition layers on depressing tones associated with Eastern Bloc operas.
