Ice Cream & Pop Up Market

August 11 | East End Street Market

I scream, you scream ... You get the idea: Ice cream tastes good. Bring an item from the list of school supplies on Chocolate Wasted Ice Cream Co.’s Facebook page to get a free cone at East End Street Market this weekend. All the proceeds from this event with ice cream, live music and local vendors will benefit teachers and their classrooms in the East End.

Free. 2800 Navigation Blvd. 713-928-9916. More information at facebook.com.

Zoo Yoga

August 12 | Houston Zoo

We’re not sure why yoga with animals has become a thing, but we don’t hate it. Plus, this Saturday is World Elephant Day, so a trip to the zoo seems necessary. The Houston Zoo has designed a special yoga class for kids ages 4-10. Get your kids out the door and your day started right with yoga at the zoo at 8 a.m. Saturday.

From $14. 200 Hermann Park Dr. 713-533-6500. More information at houstonzoo.org.

Wake Board at Wake Nation

All Weekend | Wake Nation Houston

Cool down this weekend wakeboarding at Wake Nation Houston. Ok, it’s technically not in Houston, but Rosharon is just outside of Pearland. Every weekend in August from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., they’re offering passes, rentals and instruction for one flat rate.

$32. 4411 County Road 418, Rosharon, TX. 281-431-4444. More information at facebook.com.

Southern Fried Chicken Fest at Levy Park

August 12 | Levy Park

A fried chicken contest? We’re so there. From 2 to 9 p.m. Houston food trucks and restaurants will be serving bite-size portions of their very own fried chicken dishes to win the title of people's choice for Houston's best fried chicken. Kids 8 and under get in for free, so be sure to bring your kids for this finger lickin’ good time.

From $10. 3801 Eastside St. More info at eventbrite.com.
