March 8 | NRG Stadium
While, unfortunately, we doubt that Grammy-winning artist/producer Zedd will bust out any Selena covers this Friday, you'll still want to catch what's sure to be the best electronic act you'll see at the Rodeo this year.
Tickets from $20. NRG Stadium, 1 NRG Parkway. More info and tickets at axs.com.
March 8–10 | Houston Symphony
Time to check a few more pieces off your symphony bucket list: this all-French program builds atop La Mer, Debussy's musical sketch of the sea that's become a standard; mezzo-soprano Susan Graham sings Berlioz's Les nuits d’été.
Tickets from $25. Jones Hall, 615 Lousiana St. 713-224-7575. More info and tickets at houstonsymphony.org.
March 9 | Sam Houston Race Park
It's baaaaack. For the second year, the short and stout dogs will serve as the canine intermezzo for an evening of thoroughbred horse races. The legs may be short, but the stakes are high.
Tickets $8. Sam Houston Race Park, 7575 North Sam Houston Pkwy W. 281-807-8700. More info and tickets at shrp.com.
March 10–June 27 | Museum of Fine Arts, Houston
The Starry Night? MoMA can keep it. Come Sunday, Houston will host a breathtaking retrospective that enlists Amsterdam's van Gogh museum (along with the Kröller-Müller) to tell the lesser-known story of his early career through sketches, still life, and finished paintings. “We’re expecting it to be very popular indeed,” Curator David Bomford told us. “My advice to people is to come at the beginning of the exhibition, and then make return visits rather than to leave it till the end.”
Tickets $25 (non-members). Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, 5601 Main St. 713-639-7300. More info and tickets at mfah.org.
March 10 | Houston Arboretum
Expect all the beer from the regular Saint Arnold pub crawls, except this edition takes you through the winding prairie paths of the Houston Arboretum—and dogs are encouraged. Multiple stops along the way will offer drinks and dog goodies; half the proceeds go to the Arboretum, and the rest will benefit BARC.
Tickets $30. Houston Arboretum, 4501 Woodway Dr. 713-686-9494. More info and tickets at saintarnold.com.
