Rachmaninoff's The Bells
May 9–12 | Jones Hall
Based on an Edgar Allan Poe poem of the same name, Rachmaninoff's The Bells makes full use of the Houston Symphony's all-volunteer chorus. You can still expect nothing less than perfection from the corps of hardworking hobbyists; Charles Ives's Symphony No. 4, Gershwin's I Got Rhythm variations, and more fill out the program.
Tickets from $25. Jones Hall, 615 Louisiana St. 713-224-7575. More info and tickets at houstonsymphony.org.
Comicpalooza

Get there early if you want a chance at communing with the Mother of Dragons—although be warned that photo ops start at $195.
