5 Things You Must Do This Weekend, June 7–9

In the market for a tattoo?

By Morgan Kinney June 7, 2019

Texas Monthly Live!

June 7 | Wortham Center

Our friends at Texas Monthly bring stories from the magazine to life with an evening of music and storytelling, all hosted by beloved resident columnist The Texanist.

Tickets from $44. Wortham Center, 615 Texas Ave. More info and tickets at

Houston Tattoo Arts Convention

June 7–9 | NRG Park

This second annual event remains perhaps the best opportunity for a spontaneous tattoo around. About 500 artists—including big names from reality show Ink Masters—will be on deck to execute your tattoo idea, likely for a much better deal than any parlor. Walk-ups welcome.

Tickets from $20. NRG Park. More info and tickets at

Jazz on Film

June 7–23 | Museum of Fine Arts, Houston

The annual celebration of jazz celebration returns under guest curator Peter Lucas, who pulled together a lineup of 1959 films celebrating their 60th anniversary. Expect 35mm prints scored to the music of Sun-Ra, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Mahalia Jackson, and more.

Tickets $7. Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, 1001 Bissonnet St. More info and tickets at

Saint Arnold 25th Anniversary Party

June 8 | Saint Arnold Brewing Co.

It's hard to overstate Saint Arnold's impact on the beer scene in Houston and throughout Texas; before them, a beer scene mostly didn't exist. The brewery will mark its silver jubilee this weekend with a free party featuring art cars, an art market, performances from everyone from Lil' Flip to Swimwear Department, and plenty of beer.

Free. 2000 Lyons Ave. More info at

The Three Musketeers

Thru June 30 | The Alley Theatre

As the Alley takes a lighter turn for the summer months, we heartily recommend the swashbuckling adventures of this rejiggered Three Musketeers. As our theater critic recounts in her review, "this is a wonderful cast, and this is entertainment that only can happen on a stage, no matter how much you like the novel."

Tickets from $28. 615 Texas Ave. 713-220-5700. More info and tickets at
