For the past eight years, MovieMaker Magazine has highlighted 25 of the world’s coolest film festivals and the 13th Annual Houston Cinema Arts Festival made the prestige list for 2021.

“Houston is the most diverse city in the country, and we’re proud to host a film fest that reflects its rich legacy and talent,” says Jessica Green, the HCAF’s artistic director.

Navigating a post-quarantine world has presented challenges for film festivals across the globe, but many have found ways to safely bring people back together.

The theme of this year’s fest, “The Third Coast,” will celebrate and explore the Gulf Coast region’s films, art, music, culture and much more. The hybrid festival will be accessed virtually and in person. According to the Houston Cinema Arts Society, the festival will feature over 30 films, Q&As, performances and workshops.

MovieMaker’s annual list is compiled by a jury of industry professionals and award-winning directors like Natalia Almada, Tyler Taormina, Sundance's Executive Producer Gina Duncan and documentarian Jiayan “Jenny” Shi. Other featured festivals included the New Orleans Film Festival, BlackStar Film Festival in Philadelphia and North Carolina’s Cucalorus.

Slated to take place from Nov. 11-22, 2021 and passes will go on sale next month. For more information visit https://www.cinemahtx.org/.
