Aug 5 & 6

Brazos Bookstore's Summer of Hitchcock at River Oaks Theatre

River Oaks

What’s better than dinner and a movie? Dinner, a movie, and a book. Critical arts institutions Brazos Bookstore and River Oaks Theatre have partnered up all summer for a combination screening and book club centered on director Alfred Hitchcock’s adaptations. This month, they’ll feature the classic thriller Psycho. Tickets are available here.

Pressure Point at NobleMotion Dance

Midtown

NobleMotion presents five very different performances in one spectacular evening of movement and music. Phantom Reach dives into a man’s headspace as he enters a fugue state. The Punchline centers on political polarization and the dark side of loyalty, while Landfall examines what life is like for women who feel emotionally neglected by an indifferent world. Things take a turn for the masculine with No-Holds Barred, which uses wrestling to explore the relationship between vulnerability and machismo. Everything closes out with the return of the beloved KinkyKool Fan Blowing Hard, which hasn’t been staged in a decade. This high-energy showcase uses industrial fans to create kinetic chaos.

The show on August 21 will be a pay-what-you-can event. All other showings cost $35 for regular admission and $20 for student admission. Tickets are available online.

Aug 21–23

Heat Index at Foltz Fine Art

River Oaks

Twenty-five Texas-based artists explore the theme of summer heat through a range of media, including painting, drawing, sculpture, and mixed media. Some examine climate change, others focus on nature or the human experience of life under a sweltering sun. For more information, check out the website.

Until Aug 23

The Chosen Ones by Thunderclap Productions

Midtown

The Chosen Ones debuts at MATCH in late August. This world premiere musical by Aaron Alon takes place at a conversion camp for LGBTQ+ youth, where they form their own found family and embrace who they are rather than conform to a hateful status quo.

Similar to NobleMotion, the show on August 28 is pay-what-you-can, while all other shows will cost $25 for regular admission and $15 for student admission. Tickets are available online.
