Ash Rowell started Duff Brewing over 20 years ago. During that time, he helped bring craft beers to Houston that might not have made it here otherwise. He is known amongst Houston bar owners and aficionados as one of craft beer’s strongest supporters. Brew Dog, Bear Republic and Clown Shoes are just a few of the brands that he helped introduce to the Houston market.

Rowell was shot and killed in his home in February by an unknown assailant. In honor of his memory, some of Houston’s best beer bars are hosting a variety of events this week. The events will benefit Texas Children’s Hospital, which was one of Rowell’s favorite charities. They are in bars located in various parts of Houston, so you can probably find an event near you.

Favorite Brands, which recently purchased Duff Distributing, will be matching donations dollar-for-dollar, up to $5,000.

Liberty Station started the ball last night, featuring special tappings. They'll be donating 20% of all draft sales to Texas Children’s Hospital.

Tuesday, March 26: Hay Merchant

The Hay Merchant will offer a beer dinner featuring beers that Ash Rowell and Duff brought to town. The beers will include Three Floyds “Bitch Please,” a Flemish red from Hair of the Dog, Guten Draak, Racer 5 IPA and a secret one that’s almost impossible to get in Houston. The dinner will comprise five courses and starts at 6:00 PM. Seats are extremely limited (act quickly if you want one), $75 each and can be reserved by calling Hay Merchant at 713.528.9805. All proceeds will go to Texas Children’s Hospital.

Wednesday, March 27: Flying Saucer—Downtown

For every Duff beer sold, The Flying Saucer (Downtown location) will donate $1 to Texas Children’s. They’ll additionally be offering up some special Duff-distributed brews.

Thursday, March 28: Flying Saucer—Sugar Land

The Flying Saucer (Sugar Land location) will donate $1 to Texas Children’s for every Duff beer sold. Expect some special keg tappings at this location as well.

Friday, March 29: Warm-up Party at Petrol Station

Starting at 7:00 PM, Petrol Station will feature live music and rare beers.

Saturday, March 30: Finale at Cottonwood

From 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM, Cottonwood will be featuring special keg and cask tappings. 20% of all draft sales benefit the Texas Children’s Hospital. The George Mitchell Trio, Deseret, Deep Cuts, and Tommy Lynch will be performing live and DJ Fredster will keep the crowd entertained between sets.
