Kill Two Birds with One Stone IPA at Boheme

Support the Asia Society Texas Center and sample chef Rishi Singh's food at an upcoming happy hour.

Starting May 2, the Asia Society Texas Center is hosting an exciting exhibition titled Transcendent Deities of India: The Everyday Occurrence of the Divine. If you haven't been to the Yoshio Taniguchi-designed complex, which opened nearly two years ago, this new exhibition is the perfect time to visit: the six-foot-high photographs—which feature mannequins dressed as Hindu gods and goddesses—will hang in the airy, open Sarofim Gallery for five months. But bringing in big, beautiful exhibitions like these large-scale photographs from Indian-born artist Manjari Sharma costs money. And that's where you come in.

The Asia Society Texas Center's Young Professionals group is hosting a happy hour this Tuesday, April 29, at Boheme. From 6 to 9 p.m., Boheme will donate a portion of the food and drink profits to the Asia Society Texas, which is one of several Asia Societies scattered across the globe. The non-profit Society's mission is to educate the world about Asian art and culture; the Houston-based Asia Society opened in 2012, making it the fourth in the nation behind Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C.—a tribute to how influential our city's Asian population has become.

Running concurrently with the happy hour, Boheme's chef Rishi Singh will be hosting his weekly Test Kitchen Tuesdays, in which he tests out new recipes on willing diners. In addition to his full menu of Indian fusion flatbreads and Asian fusion fries, Singh will also be offering two "test kitchen" dishes: lobster salad infused with mango chutney served on crostini, and an aloo and saag paneer flatbread. Notes the menu: "In English, that's Potato, Spinach, and Cheese Flatbread." The food couldn't be a more perfect fit with the Asia Society's upcoming exhibition.

The happy hour also serves as a preview for the Asia Society Texas Center's Young Professionals group's upcoming Leo Bar, a monthly mixer that brings together interesting, local Asian personalities and chefs for a night of fun at the Asia Society itself. The latest Leo Bar on Thursday, May 8, features funnyman Sunil T., CEO, Founder and on-air rush-hour DJ at Masala Radio Houston as well as more fun fusion food from chef Rishi Singh. Tickets are $35 in advance or $50 at the door, and include a year-long membership to Asia Society in the price as well as—you guessed it—free admission to the brand-new Transcendent Deities of India show. Now that's what we call bang for the buck.
