Deschutes Brewery Sets up Base Camp in Houston

The Deschutes Base Camp for Beer Fanatics will be making its last stop of the season in Houston starting next week with a series of pint nights, bottle shares, and food pairing events in and around Houston—and we've got the full line-up.
The Base Camp revolves around Mirror Pond Pale Ale, the brewery’s most popular beer, but the week’s events will also feature other year-round Deschutes brews and a selection of rare beers. The Oregon-based brewery will also be bringing Woody (full name: Woody T. Barrel), their giant beer barrel/mobile tavern on wheels, to select events throughout the week.
Woody Tailgate Party and Base Camp Kick-off
Nov 8, 1-5 p.m.
Spec's
2410 Smith St.
Deschutes will be starting their week of events with a tailgate party with barbecue and games of cornhole outside in the parking lot of Spec’s. Inside, you can buy some Deschutes to take home and try food parings throughout the store.
Brewmaster Lunch Break
Nov 11, noon to 2 p.m.
Nobi Public House
241 E. Nasa Pkwy., Webster
Liven up your Tuesday afternoon with (a long) lunch at Nobi Public House. In addition to their already extensive beer menu, the Deschutes lineup will be on tap and you can get a commemorative pint glass from Woody outside.
Pizza and Pints with Deschutes Brewery
Nov 11, 6-9 p.m.
Boondoggles Pub & Pizzeria
4106 Nasa Pkwy., El Lago
Any chance to have pizza and beer for dinner is a welcome one, and the pizza at Boondoggle’s on Tuesday night will be “brewery-inspired,” which could either mean using ingredients unique to Oregon, or slices shaped like beer bottles. Here’s hoping it’s the latter. The evening will also feature live music and commemorative pint glasses.
Brewmaster Bottle Share
Nov 11, 6-9 p.m.
Chelsea Wine Bar
4106 Nasa Rd. 1, El Lago
Or, if you can somehow decide between beer and pizza pairings or beer and cheese pairings, you can head next door to Chelsea Wine Bar, where a Deschutes brewmaster will be presenting flights of rare beers paired with cheeses. Attendees will also get a commemorative pint glass.
Beer Knurd Bonanza
Nov 12, 6-10 p.m.
Flying Saucer (Downtown), 705 Main St.
Flying Saucer (Sugar Land), 15929 City Walk
Sometimes in life, you have to make tough decisions. This is one of those times. The two Houston-area Flying Saucer locations will be holding Deschutes events on the same night, so you’ll have to choose where you drink based on the game of the night. The Houston location will challenge guests with a craft beer trivia night, while the Sugar Land location is playing what is arguably the best board game name ever conceived: Deschutes and Ladders. Both locations will be giving away prizes, including limited-edition stainless steel pint glasses.
Pedals and Pints Pub Crawl
Nov 13, 5:30-10 p.m.
Urban Bicycle Gallery
4814 Nett St.
The crawl will start at Urban Bicycle Gallery for complimentary beer samples and will be making stops at The Hay Merchant, Hans Bier Haus, and BRC Gastropub in that order, all of which are holding events with plenty of Deschutes beers. Tail lights and bike helmets are required to participate, which is a reasonable expectation with that much beer.
Deschutes Brewery Pint Night
Nov 13, 6-9 p.m.
The Hay Merchant
1100 Westheimer Rd.
If you want to skip the food parings, games, and bikes and just get straight to the beer drinking, Hay Merchant’s pint night will feature beers from their year-round offerings as well as their special Bond Street and Reserve Series.
Beer-aoke
Nov 13, 6-9 p.m.
Hans Bier Haus
2523 Quenby St.
If you’re feeling pretty confident by the third stop of the pub crawl, you’ll have the chance to grab a pint while belting out “Total Eclipse of the Heart.” If it goes well, you can stay for an encore and try the line-up of Deschutes beers on tap. If not, you can pedal over to the next stop and pretend the whole thing never happened.
Flight and Bites
Nov 13, 7-10 p.m.
BRC Gastropub
519 Shepherd Dr.
The last stop on the pub crawl, BRC Gastropub will be serving a brewery-inspired appetizer menu and specials on Deschutes flights. You’ll also be rewarded for your pedaling efforts with a commemorative pint glass.
Brewers Luncheon
Nov 14, noon-3 p.m.
Hubbell and Hudson Market & Bistro
4526 Research Forest Dr., Ste. 100, The Woodlands
If there was ever a time to leave work early on a Friday, this is probably it. Hubbell and Hudson Market and Bistro will be serving a Deschutes-inspired lunch menu paired with beer samples. Representatives from the brewery will also be on hand to answer questions and talk about the pairings, and the mobile tavern will be parked on the patio.
6 for 6 Sampling
Nov 14, 5-7 p.m.
H-E-B (The Woodlands)
9595 Six Pines Dr., The Woodlands
Sample your way through H-E-B, noshing on six food bites paired with six different Deschutes beers. The crew from the brewery will be there to give out swag along with a live kitchen demonstration on how to cook with beer.
Brewery Base Camp Blowout
Nov 14, 8 p.m.-late
Little Woodrow’s (Midtown)
2306 Brazos St.
Your last chance to meet some of the Deschutes team before they head back to Oregon will be at Little Woodrow’s in Midtown. The finale will feature live music from local bands, prizes from the brewery, and one last shot at getting a picture with Woody.
