What's that saying about Cinco de Mayo? Something old, something new... Oh, that's a wedding? Who cares; this Cinco de Mayo is bringing with it the opportunity to indulge in Tex-Mex treats both old and new, starting with those famous blue margaritas at El Patio.

All day today on, you know, actual Cinco de Mayo, Westheimer mainstay El Patio will be selling its neon blue margaritas—which turned 50 years old last year—for $6.50. The all-day happy hour extends to other refreshments, too: Corona and Pacifico for $2, buckets of the Mexican beers for $11, Dos Equis XX for $2.75, frozen La Flaca Jimador margaritas for $6 and La Moderno margaritas on the rocks for $8.
On the food side, look for happy hour prices on tamales ($3), ceviche ($4) and the Nachos Villa Sana, loaded with beans, chile con queso, taco meat, jalapeños and sour cream ($4.50). And if you head out to El Patio this evening, you'll get dinner and a show: mariachis will be serenading diners from 5 to 10 p.m. (Just don't ask them to play "La Bamba" for the millionth time.)

Across town, Pistolero's is celebrating Cinco de Mayo by unveiling a brand-new menu developed by chef Matthew Pak, best known for his pair of successful food trucks, Koagie Hots and The Golden Grill. But wait—that's not all: it's also Taco Tuesday at the Montrose restaurant, which means $1 tacos all day.
Obviously, this means today is the ideal day to sample your way through Pak's new menu, though it contains more than just tacos. On the appetizer side, look for dishes like bacon-and-cheese-stuffed roasted jalapeños, fried and served with avocado-lime salsa, or green chile-braised pork quesadillas. On the entree side, you'll see the restaurant's signature Bad-Ass Hambur-torta remains (thank goodness) alongside chicken mole enchiladas, fajita platters and a garlic-and-herb-roasted tilapia served with plenty of refried beans and tortillas.
