Chocolate cake and discounted wine are what happy hour dreams are made of.

Sinful as it is, the point of happy hour is essentially to pick your poison and let the stresses of the day melt into the evening. Who says the poison can't be butter, sugar and egg in the form of a triple layer cake? By day, sweet shop Red Dessert Dive's coffee and tea may flow like wine, but in the evening, wine and beer flow at a discounted price.

Looks like happy hour to us.

Don't be led astray by its name—the Heights bakery, quietly situated on Studewood Street, is more of a charming sidewalk cafe than a dive. Fresh flowers adorn the tables and booths and the aroma of baked goods is reason enough to stay awhile. With layer cakes, brownies and bread puddings stocking the case, the dessert haven is a one-stop shop for all things sweet.

Red Dessert Dive's weekday happy hour runs from 4 to 7 p.m. Between these hours, glasses of wine are $3 off and beer is $1 off. For those lacking a sweet tooth, there are savory options ripe for a drink pairing. After all, what better complement to your beer than beer bread served with smoked gouda and bacon? The assortment of sandwiches, soups and quiches changes daily, so there's always a surprise every time you go.

Red Dessert Dive isn't your average happy hour, but as soon as that third glass of wine kicks in and the craving for a butterscotch s'more blondie with chocolate chunks and marshmallows rears its head, it will all make perfect sense.
