Few things in life are worth making the trek out to suburbia in rush hour traffic, but a good happy hour on the lake is definitely one of them. We have long been fans of the Cordúa Restaurants group, but it's the charming location of the Churrascos on Lake Point, combined with its unbeatable happy hour deals that has us ready to make the drive out to Sugar Land right after work.

At first glance, the restaurant doesn't seem so different from any of the others in the retail plaza which sits at the corner of Highway 59 South and Highway 6. It isn't until you make your way to the sprawling back patio that guests realize the allure of happy hour in suburbia. The mostly covered outdoor patio faces Brooks Lake, a serene body of water with well manicured gardens that has become popular among locals for its kayaking and walking trails. And, along with food and drink specials during happy hour, guests can enjoy views from their tables of the sunset behind the towering Hyatt Place.

Unlike many other restaurants—both in the city and the suburbs—Churrascos offers its happy hour menu of discounted food and cocktails seven days a week, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The menu lists two types of ceviche and pulled pork mini tacos for $5.95 each. Empanadas (beef or chicken) and the pork Cubano sandwich are $4.95, as are cocktails like the Pisco Sour, Tangerine Passion and the mojito.

Choose from a wide variety of wines by the glass for $4.95 or beers (Bud Lite, No Label "El Hefe" and St. Arnold Brewing Company Amber Ale) for only $2.95 during happy hour. The laid-back life in Sugar Land may not be for everyone, but in a city where views are few and far between, a longer-than-usual drive to a not-so-distant Churrascos for happy hour on the lake is more than worth it.
