Uchi Launches "Road to Oktoberfest" With Local Craft Brewers

Uchi chef creates three nights of beer pairing dinners.

Sake seems to be the first choice of adult beverage when we pull up a chair at the sushi bar or at a Japanese restaurant, but some local brewmasters are trying to change that line of thinking. While Japan has some top quality beer of its own, it may be time to pair some H-Town flavor with the Land of the Rising Sun. Beginning Tuesday, July 26th, Uchi Houston will kick off its three-night-only “Road to Oktoberfest” beer dinner pairing series in which chef de cuisine Lance Gillum will team up local breweries to create a truly unique cross-cultural dining experience.

Gillum, a native Houstonian, will pair up with Karbach Brewery on July 26th, 8th Wonder Brewery on Wednesday, August 3rd, and St. Arnold Brewing Company at a date yet to be determined in September to create multi-course meals with specific pairings in mind. “Karbach, 8th Wonder and St. Arnold's all have such distinct flavor profiles and we are looking forward to creating dishes inspired by each of them,” states Gillum.

Representatives from the breweries will be on hand at each dinner to discuss the pairings and flavor profiles while Gillum will explain his inspiration for each course.
