The wait for Houston’s first cat café is over, or at least for one night. On August 14, El Gato Coffeehouse owner, Renee Reed, invites you to enjoy drinks, dessert, music, shopping and more all while playing with the cutest kitties and meeting some fellow cat lovers.
El Gato Coffeehouse, scheduled to open in early 2017, is not just here to entertain you with cats while you eat and drink. Reed partnered with Houston Humane Society to help find furrever homes for cats and offer them a more enriched life filled with human interaction, versus what they get on the streets and in shelters.
The free, family-friendly, one-night pop-up party features a cat lounge where you can relax and get a taste of what is to come with the opening of El Gato Coffeehouse. A wide variety of complimentary snacks and drinks will be available, including El Gato’s signature coffee drink, “El AffoGatto,” made with coffee by Argus Coffee Co., and ice cream by Fat Cat Creamery, of course.
But the excitement doesn’t stop with the cat lounge. View Cat/People 2016 Redux, an exhibition of works by artist Carl Vestweber, or explore the Kitty Meowcardo, a market with cat inspired gifts and accessories by local artists. Enjoy the reggae tunes of DJ Moonstomp, or stay for the aftershow debut of local rock band, The Other, led by El Gato general manager Joshua Cormier.
