Ever wished your patty melt had been designed by a James Beard Foundation award-winning chef? Apparently, with the recent closure of Oxheart, that's exactly how Justin Yu has been spending his time. His "Party Melt" would "make any French chef proud," he boasted in a press release. And diners will be able to taste for themselves late next month when he and Anvil Bar & Refuge co-owner Bobby Heugel open Better Luck Tomorrow at 544 Yale Street in the Heights.
Other dishes will mostly be "fried, snacky items." But don't expect nachos and mozzarella sticks, Yu promises a creative, international spin on bar food on the 10-item menu.
Heugel's cocktail list will also be 10 items long. The goal is to be hyper-seasonal and use local ingredients in even the smallest details, such as pickled onions in Gibsons. Alex Negranza, most recently of Heugel's latest bar Tongue-Cut Sparrow, will serve as bar manager. Oxheart alum Matt Boesen will be chef de cuisine.
Both of the big-name co-owners see their latest project as a place for them, as well as customers, to relax and have fun. "We’ll be offering our guests something different than what they’ve experienced at Anvil or Oxheart," says Yu. "This bar will be playful and lighthearted while continuing to execute at the highest level."
