Patio weather is most definitely here. We're in the thick of those few wonderful months in which Houstonians get to sit outside and actually bask in the sun without melting. Enter Presidio. Open just over a month over in the Heights, this collaboration between Charles Bishop, formerly of Southern Goods, and Adam Dorris, the longtime chef at Pax Americana, boasts a truly special outdoor space.

The main dining area and bar, with walls covered in old maps and book pages, is bordered on both sides by outdoor patio seating. One side is covered on the top and open on the sides, the other fully exposed and open to a small stage for live music.

We were recently fortunate enough to get to check out the space when the patio vibe was in full swing. There was easy access to the bar for signature cocktails, including the Bright & Sunny, an antidote to the overplayed Dark & Stormy with spiced rum and ginger beer enlivened by grapefruit juice and homemade grenadine, and Jalapeño Pink Lemonade—pretty much what it sounds like, with Cointreau and tequila. Plenty of seating was available considering it was prime time on a Saturday night.

Originally, we had planned to just come by for a light bite and some cocktails, but the atmosphere and the food were so damn inviting we ended up staying for dinner. Our waiter clued us in on the bluefin tuna special flown in that day, and if it's ever on the menu again, we will get it again. Other menu highlights include the French fries (they're pickled, then twice fried), smoked beef tartare with tonnato (tuna) sauce, and Big Ass Gulf Shrimp spiced up with Szechuan peppercorns.

With so many new outdoor spaces popping up in the Heights, it can be daunting to decide where to go. Presidio has its quirky touches like the kitchen garden that's currently in full bloom, but also a unisex bathroom. The new hotspot offers a little something for everyone, whether it be a casual night out with friends or a fancy date night, so get out there, grab a seat and enjoy the patio life!
