National Beer Day is Friday, April 7, and Hotel Granduca, the five-star boutique in Uptown Park, has chosen this day to launch Il Giardino, the new restaurant opening on the hotel grounds, with a specialty four-course dinner.
The primary reason for opening Il Giardino on National Beer Day is to recognize the exclusive partnership Hotel Granduca is launching with Birradamare, an Italian craft brewery which brews a wide selection of beers, many of which take their inspiration from German styles. Each course will be paired with a different beer from Birradamare: Bifuel, a seasonal beer described as an Italian grape ale; Onda Bionda, a Helles-inspired blonde lager; Nera, a black lager designed in the Schwarzbier style; and Birra Roma, a Marzen-inspired amber.
A Birradamare representative will be on hand at the dinner to discuss the beers and answer questions.
Il Giardino will not only feature beers; a selection of wines from Italy and California will be available at the restaurant as well. The partnership with Birradamare, however, is special because it’s just about as exclusive as it gets — these beers will not be available anywhere else in the country.
Il Giardino’s executive chef, Enrico Glaudo, has designed the menu to feature lighter fare appropriate for al fresco dining, inspired by his upbringing in Italy, and as a more casual contrast to Hotel Granduca’s signature dining option, Ristorante Cavour. The starter options range from cannellini tapenade and fried calamari, to a variety of salads, to a true antipasto platter of cured meats and pickled vegetables. The main courses include lighter classics such as panini and pizzas, in multiple varieties and made fresh.
Of course, the dining options go beyond that, and the event dinner will have some unique items on the menu, from a salted cod appetizer to a braised lamb entrée. But for beer lovers, the main attraction may still be the chance to sample beers that simply cannot be found anywhere else (outside of a trip to Italy).
