Mai's Restaurant has been proudly serving the Houston community authentic Vietnamese cuisine for nearly 30 years. Now they're taking those traditional recipes to the streets with the addition of Mobile Mai's food truck. Freshly fried spring rolls, crispy wings, and the Vietnamese fajita wrap are among the delicious must-haves. The truck will be rolling around different parts of the greater Houston area, serving at bars, festivals and other big events. But its regular home is on the University of Houston main campus, where it provides meals Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. and 11 p.m. until 3 a.m. for the night owls.
The top-selling food items have been the Vietnamese Fajita Wrap and banh mi, which aren't available at the restaurant. The banh mi is stuffed with the usual cucumbers, pickled vegetables, cilantro and fresh jalapeños as well as a swipe of savory garlic butter spread and your choice of meat. You can even add on a fried egg for that extra yolky goodness.
The Vietnamese Fajita Wrap is an Asian-style flatbread stuffed with shredded lettuce, pickled carrots, cucumber, cilantro, and your choice of protein (which includes barbecue pork, grilled chicken, flank steak, honey-glazed shrimp, fried tilapia or fried tofu). Pair it with a cold beverage like freshly brewed Thai iced tea or coconut milk, perfect for a hot, sunny day.
